Rusty Wallace named to Missouri Hall of Fame

Stock-car racing great Rusty Wallace, who just retired from the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, will be named a Missouri Sports Legend during the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremonies Feb. 12.
Wallace, a native of Fenton who began his racing career at the Springfield Fairgrounds Speedway, won the 1989 Nextel Cup championship and was the circuit's rookie of the year in 1984.
Wallace qualified for the Cup Chase for the Championship this season and completed his career with $43 million in earnings.
Becoming the 14th Hall of Fame member to receive the Missouri Sports Legend award, Wallace will attend the enshrinement reception and bronze bust unveiling ceremony at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame from noon-2 p.m. on Feb. 12. He also will be recognized that evening during the enshrinement banquet.
Among the Hall inductees is St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa.
