LIVE Daytona Saturday Blog

By Greg Engle
Cup Scene Daily,February 18

10:00 AM- I arrived at 7 this morning, not much happening today...there is of course the Busch race and Happy Hour, but not much else the day before the Daytona 500. I left here at midnight after the truck race last night. Got home at 2 AM, up at 4:30…that’s why I live by the motto ‘Sleep if for sissies.”

11:40 AM- Kenny Wallace practiced the car normally driven by his brother Mike. Mike is still a bit sore from a hard crash in Friday night’s truck race and NASCAR forced his to take the trip to the nearby Halifax Medical Center to have an MRI and be cleared by a neurologist before they’d clear him to race, he did this and will race in the 500 on Sunday.

The No. 24 sat out the final Happy Hour practice, choosing to save the wear and tear on their outside pole sitting car. That move harkens back to the days when the late Dale Earnhardt would leave his car parked during a final practice and leave everyone to wonder how good he really was.

After Happy Hour, the No. 43 crew decided they needed to change an engine, Bobby Labonte will be forced to start from the rear of the field for the Daytona 500.
