As Bike Week kicks off Friday in Daytona Beach Florida comes word that NASCAR may announce during the events, which run through March 9, that they are purchasing a motorcycle racing division from the American Motorcyclist Association.

The AMA, which was founded in 1924, announced last September that they were getting out of the racing series promotions business and would seek series promoters for each of its professional and amateur racing series.

--(Cont'd From Front Page)-- The series’ the AMA is looking to shed include the Super bike, Flat Track, Supermoto, Pro ATV Motocross, Motocross, Supercross and the Hillclimb Championship.

The series that NASCAR is interested in is the Flat Track Series. The Flat Track series is basically dirt track oval racing and is the oldest series in the AMA dating back to 1954.

Pro flat track racing is divided into two distinct classes: the AMA Grand National Twins and the AMA Grand National Singles Championships. These classes travel under the banner of the AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Championship. Pro Racing also offers the National Hot Shoe series, which serves as a development platform for riders aspiring to compete at the Grand National level.

The 24-race season begins next week in Daytona and ends in October in Topeka Kansas.
