AVONDALE, Ariz. -- After a Cup series-best six victories in 2006, Kasey Kahne suffered through a miserable, winless year in 2007. Kahne didn't record his third top 10 of the season until the Aug. 25 race at Bristol.

The 2008 season already has brought a substantial turnaround. Kahne is the only driver to have scored a top 10 in each of the first three races. Though Kahne admits he questioned himself at times last year, he attributes the improvement to Gillett Evernham Motorsports' ability to provide him with better racecars.

--(Cont'd From Front Page)-- "You definitely think about it, and you wonder, 'Man, what am I doing wrong. What do I need to do better?' " Kahne said Tuesday after the morning test session at Phoenix International Raceway. "You work on that all year long. But at the end of the day, you know that, the year before, you won six races, your team's good, they're behind you.

"It's just a matter of getting behind and not being able to go fast. It was a tough year, but we got through it, and I think you can learn a lot of stuff from those types of years."

One thing he learned was the importance of better cars.

"Our cars are 10 times better than what they were last year. That's the biggest difference. That's the only difference, I would say," Kahne said. "We still have the same driver, same crew chief (Kenny Francis) and our communication's been great working together for three years. That hasn't changed. We showed that in the first three races this year. It's just about having good racecars, and that's what we've got now."

Despite struggling with a sinus condition at Las Vegas, Kahne came from one lap down to finish sixth and keep his top-10 streak intact. Nationwide Series driver Jason Keller tested the No. 9 Dodge for Kahne on Monday.
