TESTING, TESTING
NASCAR gives teams more test dates
CSD Staff, April 16

After several complaints from teams, NASCAR announced Tuesday the addition of a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series test session May 5-6 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Dale Jr. at Whiskey River

Dale Earnhardt Junior was at his new club Whisky River in Charlotte Tuesday night speaking to the media.

"I built it to come in here and hang out, come and have a good time on a Tuesday night," he said. "I don't enjoy going into a bar and seeing everybody took the best spot so we want every spot to be decent and average around here."

Whiskey River's grand opening is Friday night. Tickets for one of two grand opening parties this weekend are available at: www.whiskyrivercharlotte.com

NASCAR visited with the teams this past weekend at Phoenix about the possibility of adding a test to further prepare for the remaining 17 events the series has at intermediate tracks the rest of the season, including next month’s NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The extra test gives the series seven sanctioned test sessions this year, the same number the teams had in 2007.

“We received input from the teams last weekend at Phoenix and a vast majority of them were receptive to adding a test next month at Lowe’s,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR Vice President of Competition. “We have 17 events ahead of us on intermediate tracks and the additional test allows the teams the opportunity to learn more about the new car, work on their setups and adjustments, and apply that information to these future races.”

H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway, last week encouraged NASCAR to consider an additional test at the 1.5-mile superspeedway. He was relieved to receive Tuesday's news.

"I appreciate NASCAR being proactive and attempting to improve the racing on the intermediate tracks," Wheeler said. "It's become obvious that something needs to be done immediately to help these teams. Hopefully, the additional track time will provide them the opportunity to find some things that will help when they come back two weeks later.”

The View From Fanville
Pondering and Wondering
By Amy Hair,Senior Columnist,Cup Scene Daily, April 16

I am often amazed by the simple things in life, things that others don’t always find intriguing, but that’s okay, I’m used to being considered a little “weird”. I think it comes with being a writer, the senses are heightened and we tend to “see” things different than the average Joe on the street. So when I received a message from one of my readers, I was once again thrown into a different place, one I hadn’t been in for awhile…
