TWO DAYS, TWO COUNTRIES
Fernandez pulling double duty
Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service , April 19

MEXICO CITY -- Adrian Fernandez will hop between two countries this weekend as he competes in the American Le Mans Series race Saturday in Long Bach, Calif., and the NASCAR Nationwide Series Corona Mexico 200 on Sunday in Mexico City.

Fernandez practiced his JR Motorsports car Friday in Mexico and then left to fly to Long Beach for the race Saturday in a car he owns. He will return to Mexico City at about 1:30 a.m. local time Sunday morning and race less than 12 hours later in the Nationwide race.

"The logistics are quite hard," said Fernandez, who planned to get about six hours of sleep between races. "I would not be able to have the time that I would love to have here through the weekend. It's just not possible."

Because David Green will qualify the JR Motorsports car Saturday for Fernandez, the Mexico City native will have to start from the rear of the field Sunday.

Fernandez drove from the back to the front in 2005 but then came into the pits just when the yellow light turned on and was penalized. He still managed to finish 10th, however.

Fernandez knows he will have to be patient Sunday.

"It's a long race; there's always a lot of yellows," Fernandez said. "But I feel at the end, if I manage to keep my car clean, I think I'll be fighting for the win."
