Infraction for Yeley No Big deal; No Lead Found By Reid Spencer,Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Posted:0835hrs
JOLIET, Ill. -- After Saturday night's Lifelock.com 400, NASCAR characterized an infraction by J.J. Yeley's No. 96 Toyota team as an "unauthorized adjustment to the car without an official present. --(Cont'd From Front Page)-- " The adjustment involved a team member removing the bag containing liquid refreshment for the driver -- and not replacing it." NASCAR said. Putting lead in water bottles and then removing the bottles before a race to lighten a car is not a new idea in NASCAR racing, but the sanctioning body indicated after Saturday's race that earlier reports that lead had been found in Yeley's bag were erroneous. The 96 car was allowed on track during the second of three pace laps and hit with a stop-and-go penalty on pit road once the race began. NASCAR intends no further action against the team.
