Kyle Busch just being realistic By Reid Spencer, Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service Posted:0835hrs
Font size: Small/ Larger/ Largest Sphere: Related Content KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Kyle Busch isn't throwing in the towel. --(Cont'd From Front Page)-- The driver of the No. 18 Toyota is just being realistic when he says his chances of winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship are slim. A sway bar problem and an engine failure in the first two Chase for the Sprint Cup races dropped Busch from first to 12th in the standings entering Sunday's Camping World RV 400 at Kansas Speedway. On Friday at the speedway, Busch stood in front of his transporter -- demoted to 12th in line in the garage area by last Sunday's last-place finish at Dover -- and assessed his chances for the remaining eight races, now that he's 210 points behind leader Carl Edwards and 200 behind Jimmie Johnson and Greg Biffle. "Here's how I look at it -- you can't count on anybody else having a bad race," he said. "So, realistically, yeah, we are out of it. If they do have a bad race -- then it depends on who has the bad race and how bad the race is and stuff, for us to get back in it. "Realistically, if you are not counting on those guys having a bad race, we can't win eight races in a row and have Carl or Biffle finish fifth through 10th every single one of those and still win the deal. That ain't going to happen." Busch has won a series-high eight races this season, and the calamities of the first two Chase races have him mystified. "Honestly, I don't know what you do," he said. "I don't know what to change. We haven't changed anything this whole year, so whatever has just happened has been a product of bad luck. I don't know. Maybe one of the guys (on the No. 18 team) is wearing the wrong underwear on race day."
