Tony Stewart Moves Into Goody’s Country
October 28
Richard Petty welcomes NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Chase leader to his neighborhood in new Goody’s commercial
Tony Stewart is keeping some pretty fast company these days. The 2002 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Champion and current Chase points leader has become the latest resident of “Mr. Petty’s Neighborhood” in Goody’s Country – the place where speed reigns supreme.
Stewart has joined seven-time NASCAR champion and long-time Goody’s Headache Powders spokesperson Richard Petty and his son Kyle in the new Goody’s advertising campaign. The campaign features a series of commercials that provide a glimpse into life in “Mr. Petty’s Neighborhood,” including Stewart’s move-in day and his reaction to the speedy pace of life there. Everything is fast in “Mr. Petty’s Neighborhood.” The traffic lights are always green, the family dog is a greyhound, the pizza delivery boys drive low-riding hot rods, speed bumps are outlawed and the only pain reliever for the residents is Goody’s Headache Powders – the Official Pain Reliever of NASCAR. The commercial was filmed Oct. 11 and 12 in Greensboro, N.C.
“Making the commercial with Richard was great,” said Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and what he’s accomplished in life and on the race track. The Pettys are synonymous with going fast and Goody’s, so when the opportunity arose to join Richard and Kyle in this new Goody’s campaign, I was all for it.”
“I had a lot of fun working with Tony on the commercial shoot,” said Richard Petty. “He certainly knows all about going fast, and with a little more practice and a few more pointers, I think he may become as good an actor as I am.”
“We’re excited about our new Goody’s Country campaign,” said Darren Singer, Vice President Goody’s Marketing. “It’s tailored specifically to NASCAR fans and reinforces the Goody’s NASCAR equity – it’s all about speed, and why we’ve been the Official Pain Reliever of NASCAR the past 30 years. We’re also thrilled to have Tony join Richard and Kyle as part of our effort. Richard is the King of Speed and represents Goody’s deep roots in the South and our long-standing relationship with NASCAR; and having Tony move into ‘Mr. Petty’s Neighborhood’ represents our continuing and future commitment to NASCAR.”
Both Stewart and Goody’s also are committed to the Petty’s Victory Junction Gang Camp, a camp for seriously ill children and their families. Goody’s was the first $1 million donor to Victory Junction, helping to fund the camp’s medical center – the Goody’s Body Shop. Stewart also has supported the camp from its inception, contributing over $1 million through the Tony Stewart Foundation. As part of its continuing commitment to Victory Junction, and in recognition and appreciation of Stewart’s support of the camp, Goody’s donated $25,000 in Stewart’s name to the camp during a press conference at Atlanta Motor Speedway today.
“Kyle and Pattie’s Victory Junction Gang Camp is an awesome facility and knowing that Goody’s is a big supporter of the camp made the decision to work with them that much easier,” Stewart said. “Kyle and Pattie’s dream of building the camp has become a reality, but it still takes a tremendous amount of money to run Victory Junction each year. I really appreciate Goody’s donating this money in my name.”
