They Didn’t Get It; and Now It’s Too Late!
(The follow-up to "They Just Don’t Get It" That was written in 2003)

We’ve endured so much over the last few years. We walked with him when he was triumphant and on top of the world. We sat and prayed when the world came crashing down. When he finally returned and began to show the rest of the world he wasn’t ready to give up the fight, well we stood with him supporting him with all our might.

We have watched him wreck. Watched him get sooo close to that win so many times. More then once a few of us have even got into an argument supporting and defending him. We've also had to endure too many negative articles to read proclaiming that its over, he will never be the same. They angered us, and riled us; but they never could detour us. As loyal fans we linked arms, stood solid, and kept on supporting him. We've had to on several occasions; step up our demonstration of support. Because if the rest of the world was going to throw him out, well, holding him up was what we fans were for.

For 3 years we have stood together, the rest of the world just couldn’t get it, but we did. We made a point to be at the track and even though our groups at times were really small; we stood out and tried to make the most noise. We really weren’t there to get acknowledged or treated to a meeting. No we were there to show him he hadn’t lost us, we still belonged to him. We figured if the rest of the world was going to push him out; well, then it was our job to stand up at the track and scream and shout!!! If no one else noticed or heard us that was fine, because somehow we knew he would, and that’s all that mattered.

For so long now we've known it was coming.

We prayed and hoped and road every wave with him. The rest of the world just couldn’t get it. They just couldn’t understand. But that didn’t matter; we got it, and were dedicated to standing behind the man. We all knew one day very soon, maybe the next race, or umm ok the race after that; it was coming, victory lane was coming. We knew it we just didn’t know when. Well my compadre’s it happened! Last night he stood in victory lane and took each one of with him. The rest of the world didn’t get it and heck they probably still don’t. And that’s ok, because the general public will never understand what it is to be a Steve fan. To love the driver that admittedly does make mistakes and to have to endure the pain of listening to the rest of the world trash his talent and his name. They don’t understand what it means to be a Sparkie, or comprehend the battle he has led us through!

They just don’t get it and that’s ok. WE DO!

Other fans will never get to experience what he gave us Friday night, and that’s the best part of being a Steve Park fan. The pain, the anger, the let downs, were important for us to experience along the way, because they made our special moment so much sweeter! I actually feel bad for the other fans in a way, because they will never get to experience a victory The Sparkie Way!
